Would-be international superstars The Limes began as an informal songwriting collaboration between Jeff Sparks and freelance writer/editor Assia Mortensen. The collaboration became official when the pair wed on August 15, 2004. The Limes draw inspiration from foreign film directors, 70’s porn music, and the great musical couples of yester-year: Joao/Astrud, John/Exene, Paul/Linda (whose “Bluebird” is covered on the Limes’ eponymous debut), resulting in groovy, off-kilter pop tunes separated by the odd instrumental track. Lovers of early Pizzicato Five and all things Jobim, take note.
SECRET RECIPE: The Limes’ official drink is the Lime-tini. Here’s how you make it:
get a lime popsicle-remove the stick (very important)
cut into small pieces
mix with 2-3 ice cubes and your favorite vodka in a martini shaker.
shake well for at least 30 seconds
pour into martini glasses; garnish each with a slice of lime
serve on a warm evening, put on The Limes, and have an incredible night
